Eduardo Hernández, researcher at the Materials Science Institute of Madrid (ICMM-CSIC), is the speaker of this director team’s seminar. During this talk, he explains that Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its daughter, Machine Learning (ML), are having a massive impact in all forms of human endeavour, and Science as a whole, and Materials Science in particular, are not immune to this new technological revolution.
Because of that, Hernández argues that Materials Science stands to benefit enormously by embracing AI & ML as new research tools. In passing, he presents a brief introduction to ML, describing some key concepts and illustrating some of its possible uses with examples taken from recent work carried out at ICMM. I also introduces the AI-Lab ICMM, a strategic transversal initiative at ICMM, and describe its aims and activities.
