The emergence of Artificial Intelligence has been causing controversy in the movie world, including at the Academy Awards this year. AI was used in the making of two films that garnered 10 and 13 nominations respectively: “The Brutalist“ and "Emilia Pérez". The productions took home 3 and 2 awards each. Q1. AI in the movie industry. A topic we delved into before. Today, we want to focus on AI applied to acting, such as in the award-winning movies “The Brutalist“ and "Emilia Pérez". First, what’s been the controversy?

Q2. Could we say that the Oscar nominations and wins imply that the use of AI in actors' performances has been positively received within the movie industry?

Q3. Professor Soh, what are your thoughts on giving awards to actors whose acting has been assisted by AI?

Q4. Actors Tom Hanks, Robin Wright and others in the 2024 movie “Here” were “de-aged” thanks to AI technology. Tell us more about this AI tool and how was the film received?

Q5. Korean movies have also started using AI technology (for actors). Where does Korea’s AI technology stand on that front and how will this affect filmmaking in the future?

Q6. But, for now, it seems like concerns are outweighing positive assessments regarding AI used in acting, is that true?
