What Exactly is AI?

AI refers to the simulation of human intelligence in machines designed to think and act like humans. These systems can learn, understand natural language, recognize patterns, and make decisions, functioning autonomously and improving over time.

Is AI Mentioned in the Bible?

The Bible does not explicitly mention AI, but it offers principles that can guide us. Proverbs 1:7 emphasizes the importance of wisdom, which can relate to our pursuit of knowledge through technology. Genesis 1:28 speaks about human dominion over the earth, suggesting the development and responsible use of technology. The story of the Tower of Babel (Genesis 11:1-9) cautions against pride and the misuse of power.

Should We Embrace AI as Christians?

Christians can use AI for good, such as spreading the gospel through AI-driven translation and social media, and serving others by improving healthcare and addressing social issues. However, we must recognize the limitations of AI and ensure it doesn't replace the guidance of Scripture. Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us to trust in the Lord rather than our own understanding.

Exercising Caution

AI lacks the spiritual discernment and wisdom found in the Word of God. Therefore, while AI can assist in various tasks, it should not be relied upon for spiritual guidance. Christians should approach AI with discernment, ensuring its use aligns with biblical values and advocating for its ethical and responsible application.

In summary, AI can be a powerful tool for advancing the mission of the church and serving others, but it must be used with caution and underpinned by the teachings of the Bible.
