The US has refused to sign an “inclusive” and “sustainable” artificial intelligence declaration on the final day of the Artificial Intelligence Action Summit in Paris. It was the first global meeting to involve representatives from the new administration of US President Donald Trump. The two-day summit opened in the French capital on February 10, 2025, and was attended by some 1,500 participants from around 100 countries. Britain joined the US in declining to sign the declaration. Washington criticised Europe for excessive artificial intelligence (AI) regulation and warned China not to use cutting-edge technology to tighten its grip on power. But French President Emmanuel Macron said global rules were a necessary “foundation” for “what will allow AI to arrive and endure”.
