Chinese artificial intelligence company DeepSeek and its latest open-source large language model (LLM) are sending shockwaves through the world's tech industry. DeepSeek's LLM appears to match or even beat its competitors at a fraction of the cost. And DeepSeek is by far not the only AI model coming out of China. Alibaba's Qwen and Bytedance's Doubao are other examples of competitors catching up with American companies like OpenAI. US President Donald Trump says it's a 'wake-up call' for Silicon Valley, but how real is DeepSeek's AI revolution? Can this Chinese startup truly overtake the US tech giants spending billions to win the AI race?
